Ó Ghaeltacht go Galltacht

100 years of Irish in Clare

Wed 15th July 2026

This talk will delve into the publication of the Gaeltacht Commission’s Report in 1926, with particular emphasis on the impact this had on County Clare.

The talk aims to explore some of the more sensitive matters arising from this report, as well as the status of the Irish language by 1926 and beyond, the profile of speakers at the time, the census carried out by the Commission, and the impact of the policies made following the report.

Finally, what does it mean one hundred years later?
