About the speaker
Elaine Keegan
Elaine Keegan is the local West Clare Wildlife Ranger with National Parks & Wildlife Service.
She has been working with wildlife and biodiversity for more than 20 years.
Elaine is passionate about wildlife and is also involved in the West Clare Wildlife Club committee.
The National Parks & Wildlife Service are the government authority protecting wildlife.
The three key roles of the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) are:
Firstly; to secure the conservation of a representative range of ecosystems (habitats) and to maintain and enhance populations of flora and fauna in Ireland.
Secondly; to manage the Irish State’s nature conservation responsibilities under national and European law and international commitments.
Thirdly; to promote awareness of natural heritage and biodiversity issues through education, outreach, engaging with stakeholders and to manage our National Parks and Nature Reserves.
